Mason
Community Student Center Breaks Ground
Mason First Church of the
Nazarene broke ground for its Community Student Center
on Sunday, June 24, 2007. The 15,000+ square foot Community Student Center
is to be built by the Mason
First Church of the Nazarene (MFCN) and will be located on 45 acres that was
purchased 8 years ago. The site of the new Community Student
Center is on M-36
just east of the Ingham County Fairgrounds.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to all those
responsible in making the day such a huge success!
First, Kristy Butz, for her organizing, & planning of the whole event!
Thank you so much Kristy!!!! What a blessing you are to this church
family. Sam Nesbitt for her indescribable
printing capabilities. You are so awesome!
To the steady and persistent faith of our Building Committee who
have been given the task of guiding us through all the building
difficulties: Brad Brooks, Bill Christman, Gary Nesbitt, Paul Warfle
& Chuck O’Berry. You have been placed in this position for such a
time as this! To Brian Stetler, Dean Johnson &
Ken Lake in taking time to plant & mow the property to
make a way for us to gather on the property. Bill &
Jeanine Christman for the use of their tents and chairs and in
helping Thom Richey & others in set up Sunday morning.
Dan Baker, Charlie Williams, & Chris Dowdy in parking cars on the
property, and to Jim Every for taking charge of traffic control on
M-36 guiding us onto the property! You go Jim!!!
To Dawn & Terry Gawel, Sid Bazzy and Loren Shattuck in recording
the day for us on video & camera for future reference, and Ken Blik
for providing a generator to run the sound system.
And a special thanks to Pastor Gerhard Weigelt from Pastor
Mark for his leadership in his absence. All
along the way it will take all of us working together to make this
dream a reality. The days ahead will be challenging - a true test of
faith, however, as we were so beautifully reminded
that Sunday morning, “the voice of Truth tells
us a different story.... the voice of Truth says ‘Do
not be afraid....this is for My Glory!’ We need only listen & believe
the Voice of Truth!
The nearly $1 million dollar
project commemorates the 75th anniversary year of the Mason
church. Over 1/3 of the money has been raised for this project by the
congregants of MFCN. Further fundraising and gifts will be collected over the
next few months.
Upon completion, the Community
Student Center will provide the Mason area with additional support through
programs for latch key kids, senior meals, Adopt a Grandparent and Kids
Hope/Tutoring. MFCN also hopes to provide some relief to the local school
districts by hosting “5th quarter” parties and providing gym and
field space to help the schools accommodate athletic scheduling.
Mason First Church of the
Nazarene has a history of supporting the community by hosting Meals on Wheels as
a distribution center for Ingham County. It addition, MFCN provides a structured
football, basketball, and cheerleading program, known as Upward, for children
preschool through 8th grade. Most recently the church coordinates
the areas Angel Food Ministry, a national program that provides excellent
quality groceries at bulk prices.
